 Hitherto, I had seen very little of Harry. He seemed to spend most of his time out riding in the day and he and Hardley had, since his arrival, spent an inordinate amount of time drinking port and taking snuff after dinner, leaving the ladies to amuse themselves.  Riding wasn't suitable on a Sunday however, so they both spent much of the afternoon with us in the drawing room. It was deceptively peaceful. Cecily embroidered, Louisa practised on the pianoforte in the corner, I wrote my letter and the gentlemen read newspapers. After finishing my letter I drew out various catalogues relating to the refurbishment of a town house and studied them. I did not realise that Cecily was watching me.
