The mind bends. A door standing free, no frame, no support of any kind, nothing beside it, behind it, nothing. You can't kick open a door like that; kicking open implies that it leads somewhere, that there's an "in" and an "out." This door has neither. You can't kick it in, you can only kick it over.

But Garrett kicked it in.

The instant the door flew open, a black rectangle filled the space the thing had ceased to occupy. A black rectangle the shape of the door, the door inside the rectangle, no shadows, no darkness, just drawn in the rectangle like a door...
