‘right-hand woman’ to the villainous Nolan Sorrento, providing balance between the ‘good’ side and the ‘bad’ – being, like Art3mis/Samantha, an eminently capable woman who could solve the problem herself, but who is trapped in a Facilitator role by a Patriarchal system. Every woman in this story is in Facilitator role. Beyond Art3mis/Samantha and F’Nale, Aech/Helen is a gifted engineer whose technical work assists in the action. Aunt Alice puts a roof over Wade’s head. And that’s about it, because all the other real women in the movie just mill around in the background being ineffectual and disposable.

The only exception to that is the character of Karen/Kira Underwood (Perdita Weeks). She only appears, briefly, in Halliday’s CGI Journals, with Parzival/Wade and Ar...
