Eleanor hadn’t heard Mandy cry in the night like this since she was a tiny girl, not even in school yet.
Were Mom and Dad hearing this?
Probably not, given how good the soundproofing was on their bunk.
Fortunately, the neighbors had great soundproofing, too.
But that left Eleanor as the only person who could interrupt Mandy’s new night terrors.
As she’d done when they were younger, Eleanor raised her bunk screen, reached down, and tapped on Mandy’s. It took three times, but eventually, the screams stopped, and Mandy growled, “What?”
“You’re having a bad dream, Mandy.”
“My heartrate is going pretty fast, but I don’t remember anything.”
“Might be better that way.”
