Just as Eleanor reached the corridor that housed GenM’s offices, Mandy came barreling out of the main entrance, leaving strands of beads swaying in her wake.

Eleanor rushed toward her. “Mandy, what’s going on? Are you all right?

Mandy turned toward Eleanor, but seemed to stare straight through her for a moment. Then, her eyes focused, and she shook her head. “Sorry, what?”

Eleanor tried not to let her impatience show. She was supposed to be finding Sam, and doing something—she didn’t know what. But she couldn’t leave Mandy here in this state, either. “Are you all right? And what’s going on? Sam Greeley’s family seems to think he’s in some kind of trouble.”
