Eleanor paced their family quarters tapping her fingers against her thigh. Mandy sat on the couch, scribbling on her school tablet. They’d been here, trying to figure out what happened to Sam since Mandy’s supervisor at GenM, Beatrice Miller, had told them about their father arresting Sam.
At first, Eleanor had tried to help Mandy with the search for Sam, but once it was clear her efforts only slowed Mandy down, she now walked back and forth, worrying, keeping an eye on news reports, and feeling useless.
“I don’t understand. He should be here somewhere,” Mandy muttered.
Eleanor’s shoulders tightened. What was she going to tell Sam’s grandma if she couldn’t even find him, let alone help him?
