The big blackout caught Tori beneath a shuttle. She’d been standing below it, her hands up in the vehicle’s guts, trying to locate a loose wire, when all the lights but the one on her headband flickered and then went off completely.
That was nothing new. On Hope, lights flickered off all the time.
Usually, they flickered back on after a moment or two.
But this time, nothing.
No lights returned. Not even the dim emergency glows that lit the path to the exit of the shuttle bay.
A sudden silence fell. Not even life support hummed in the background.
Well, that made sense, if even the emergency backup power had gone out.
How long did they have until the air grew too stale to breathe?
