Gabe couldn’t quite make sense of the mess at first. Where there should have been bunks, a wild heap of crates and bags sat jumbled together.
“What’s all this?” he wondered aloud.
“This is what happens when you overload a shelf without securing anything, and then go into a freefall and crash,” his savior said grimly. She leaned Gabe against the corridor wall and started shifting packages, sorting them quickly by size and type into neat piles.
Gabe wished he knew her name, wished he was able to do more than toddle about like a helpless baby.
She hadn’t been impressed with him when they met, and she had to be completely disgusted now.
He tried to lean down and help with the cleanup, but the world swirled around him, and he barely avoid...
