Tori watched hope drain out of Lu’s eyes and wished there’d been a way to keep her friend ignorant of their situation a little longer.

They’d have to live without hope for a bit. They might be lost and without support, but she wasn’t ready to give up yet. She forced cheerfulness into her voice. “We’ll just have to get our systems back online, then. Good thing I know a thing or two about repairs. And so does Gabe, as soon as we get him conscious and up to helping out again.”
