Tori stalked out of the galley toward the bridge as if something was chasing her. Maybe something was—the ghost of Mr. Gao.

Was Tori really like him? She hoped not. Certainly she wasn’t so sure that people were evil that she would actively try to wipe them out. At least not today. And she’d hope not ever.

She couldn’t see it—but Mr. Yi had seen something in her that reminded him of Mr. Gao, and that scared her. She’d been thinking of Mr. Gao as a twisted caricature of a person, warped from the start, different from her and her friends.

But what if he wasn’t? Mr. Yi and her grandma had apparently both considered him their friends at one point, so he must not have always been a monster.
