Tori nodded. “Well, I think so, but that’s not the way the world seems to work. And it’s beside the point. What’s important is that Lu knows how to play those games, and she’s good at it, and we need the person who’s speaking for us to be able to lie convincingly.”

“But why?”

Brian rolled his eyes. “Because we wouldn’t really hold the energy hostage from Hope, stupid. We all have family on that tub.”

“But they know that,” Gabe said.

“I guess I’ll have to lie really, really well,” Lu said, the sound coming out muffled because her face was still in her hands.
