If one more person hugged Tori, she thought she would scream. Who were all these people anyway? Did she really know that unhealthy-looking skinny woman with the giant baby bump?

Then Tori noticed the man next to her. Her father. So that was Shirley. Tori wished she had her armband to help her figure out how to talk to them—but maybe not even an armband could keep that interaction from being awkward.

Shirley caught her staring, and came up arms wide. Why on Hope would the woman want to hug Tori? She’d never even wanted to meet Tori before.

The woman had tears in her eyes as she leaned in to embrace Tori. “The doctors were saying we’d have to abort until you brought all this energy home.”
