Divas have been around for centuries; the most significant female vocalist in an opera was often called the diva, and there were divas in later forms of musical theater as well. But divas really made a splash in the pop scene; Cher, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Lady Gaga; the list goes on. They were referred to by many titles; divas, goddesses, prima donnas, idols, and so on. But clearly, there are singers that are not widely known, but their fans still think of them as divas. I always knew this, but it really dawned on me and made me seriously think about the concept of a diva when we were going through the May 2017 edition of the EMI Production Music catalogue back in June 2017.
