There is something delightfully old-fashioned and pleasantly soothing about show tunes and lounge songs; whether it's a love song like "Something Good" from The Sound of Music or a Frank Sinatra song from seven decades ago, there's something about the lighter side of the stage; yes, the upbeat show tunes are wonderful as well, but the lighter side has a certain indescribable charm to it. So when I discovered this album, Stay Away from Stars by Alex Rudd and Don Black, I was overjoyed! First of all, Don Black is a legendary lyricist, who happened to write the lyrics to the Michael Jackson song that has become my favorite, "Ben" from 1972. He has also won many awards, including an Academy Award, for his lyrics; I can't believe that he wrote some lounge/show tunes for the KPM...
