Stalwart student soldiers,

shushed in school skirmishes,

stand stiff in silence,

straining in their rank and file.

Unbending toy soldiers

hold the line within classroom walls,

in study-hall trenches,

along linoleum frontlines.

Wild and restless youth  

struggling to stay suppressed

until all hell breaks loose

at the bugle-call of recess.
