Series Description:
A century after catastrophe left the sun lethal and the forest poisonous, humanity survives in Paraville - a secret settlement buried five hundred strong beneath the trees, under a painted-sky ceiling.
Twelve-year-old Valorya Finch has always known when she was dreaming. When her class becomes the first group of children allowed inside the Simulacrum - a virtual recreation of the lost world - she and the new kid Fritz begin noticing things that shouldn't be there: an owl with tawny-orange eyes, roots in impossible places, a presence with too many faces.
Then her father falls into a coma no one can explain.
Something is awake in the Sim that doesn't want to be seen.
Category/Genre(s): Mystery/Thriller, Paranormal, Science Fiction, FantasyAuthor Bio For Aimee Sparrow:
Aimee Sparrow writes dreamlike science fiction and keeps a lucid dreamer's notebook of her own. She is the author of Lunacy: A Collection of Online Journals (Kindle, 2020) and publishes essays and short fiction on Medium. Simulacrum Earth is her first novella.
Acknowledgements:
To the real-life Spider-Man - you know who you are. Thank you for showing up, again and again, when it would have been easier not to. Some heroes don't wear masks; they just keep coming back.
To Georgie - the bird who showed me what true love is like. Small, stubborn, and impossible not to adore. He taught me that love doesn't need words, only presence and flock calls.
Notes:
Simulacrum Earth is a serialized novella - new chapters as I finish them. It began years ago as a different book, was set aside, and returned as this one; some readers of the early version will notice the bones are the same.
A note on content: it deals with coma, illness, and the aftermath of a world-ending catastrophe, gently but honestly.
Thank you for reading. Comments keep the lights on in Paraville.
