Mac mingled. He made short, pointless small talk here, and more short, pointless small talk there. He couldn't do anything else. He only knew four other people and he was light years out of his comfort zone.

They had flown into Aspen to meet a limousine on the tarmac. God, Mac, Xena, and Bird had piled into the car and sat, listening to smooth jazz and sipping proffered wine (or Cokes) until Peekaboo joined them thirty minutes later. She had made her entrance as decoratively as the other women in a shimmering, white, tastefully titillating dress that made Mac jealous of Bird.

There she was now, smiling, talking, and laughing with an Army gene...
