Georgie Ellis poured more coffee for Pauline Philbey and waited for a reply.

Philbey added milk and two sugar lumps before replying.

‘Mmmm. They make excellent coffee in this hotel!’ Philbey turned around, as if looking for a member of staff to compliment.

‘What do you think will happen now, Pauline?’

Philbey shrugged. ‘Why ask me, you’re the Detective Sergeant!’

Ellis laughed nervously. ‘Yes, I am. But it’s the Chief Constable’s father who is implicated in the Towpath Murders, thanks to your film, so goodness knows how she will play it!’
