‘I’ve got to go Gran. I want to get home to watch the tennis!’

‘You could watch it here, love’.

‘Your telly’s always on the blink! I need to go anyway. I said I’d do lunch for the boys’.  

‘Them two should look after their selves. They’s old enough now, Your too kind, Rache!’

Rachel Evans got up and went over to the front room window. The sun’s rays almost blinded her as she looked out over the park and down to the canal.

‘What’s so important about a tennis match, anyway?’

‘It’s the final Gran. A young German called Boris Becker’s playing. Against Kevin Curran. It’s so exciting!’

‘You like tennis, don’t you?’
