Kitty is one of my favourite library users. She always has a cheerful smile and hello for me when she visits. Even if we don’t always have the same taste in books, she can talk about books and authors for hours on end. Several decades divide us in age but it never feels like a generation gap. She may call the internet the Inter Web, but her opinions are bang up to date and well informed. A conversation with her is a pleasure.

It is heart breaking to watch her on her current journey and her cheery smile has been missing in action.

After a few weeks of avoiding editing, she knuckled down to it earlier this year and now has a revised version of her debut novel ready to sell, but it’s proving to be a slog.

We finished up book club early this evening and retired to the Go...
