Together they moved the dresser, which fortunately was neither large nor heavy. As soon as they had it a few inches from the wall, he reached out a hand and grabbed something small and metallic.

He stood up, one hand holding the item, the other clutching his cane.

Then he opened his eyes and swayed as his power left him. Denise caught his arm and steadied him.

“Jim! What’s wrong?” She helped him to the bed, and he sat. He blinked his eyes several times, settling back into the physical world.

“I’m fine. Just a bit tired. That takes it out of me sometimes.” He glanced around the room. He was sitting on a queen-sized bed with a simple oak frame, neatly made up with a blue coverlet. Matching end tables were on either side, and the only other piece of furniture...
