“Arrin?” Ramona called.

He ignored her.

“Arrin?” she sounded panicky, and then he heard her fast-retreating footsteps.

He was feeling smug and comfortably drowsy from loss of blood when he was startled by a loud pounding on the door. He ignored it, knowing no one could break through the heavy door, and a moment later the pounding stopped, proving him right. He was congratulating himself over outsmarting these people when he heard a scratching on the hinges and realized they were removing them.

He cursed. Why hadn’t he thought of that possibility? He struggled to his feet using the wall for support and watched in disgust over the failure of his plan to end his life as the door was pulled free from its opening and Logan and Cody rushed in with Dr. Fi...
