Clayton prepared three sandwiches, set each on a red plastic plate, and set the plates on a matching red plastic tray along with a full-size bag of chips and three cans of cola. He offered the tray to Arrin first, who selected a plate and one of the colas.

“Chips?”

Clayton offered Arrin the bag, but he shook his head, so Clayton offered the bag to Ron, who took a generous portion. Then Clayton and Ron bowed their heads for a prayer of thanks.

Arrin cursed Chance for leading him to two Christians deep in the woods on another planet after he'd gone through so much trouble to escape from an entire colony of them! He waited until father and son were finished praying before asking, “How long have I been here?”
