Chapter Twenty-Nine

Two peaceful months had passed in Oceanview. Arrin knew he shouldn’t stay in one place for so long, but he couldn’t find it within him to leave. The quiet sleepiness of the town salved his wounded heart, and he felt so safe here he didn’t even bother to don his sunglasses when he went out, except when he visited the store or other places with plenty of people. Every morning when he arose from bed he told himself he’d take one last walk along the beach and afterward pack up and leave, but after his walk, he always found some excuse to delay his departure until the day had passed. He’d retire to bed determined to leave first thing in the morning, but the next day the cycle began anew, and this morning was no different.
