It was mid-afternoon when Officer Kabeta stopped to investigate a black, late-model SUV wedged against a snow bank. He was surprised to find an indignant Officer McFarland handcuffed to the handle above the door. He released his red-faced fellow officer.

“What happened? How did you end up here? Where’s your Snowcat?”

“It was the fugitive clone! He kidnapped me and handcuffed me to this door, and then he just left me here to freeze to death!”

Kabeta laughed. “So he got the better of you, did he?”

McFarland puffed out his chest. “This is no laughing matter. He nearly killed me, but I managed to talk him out of it.”

Officer Kabeta sobered. “Did he now?”
