With nothing left to vent his anger on Arrin pulled his hood over his cap to keep the cold rivulets of water from running down his neck and back and stomped away. Several blocks of stomping later he saw a dingy motel across the street. He knew it was dangerous to enter a public place so soon after his likeness had been broadcast over the news. However, he was willing to risk recognition for the possibility of a warm, dry room with a soft bed. He hunkered further into his coat as he splashed across the puddle-riddled street, and entered the motel.

The desk clerk was so preoccupied with some paperwork she didn’t even notice he’d entered the lobby. He cleared his throat to gain her attention, and she started, and looked up.
