Chapter Forty-One

Even though he was a prisoner again Arrin felt like a free man. After a year of looking over his shoulder, he could finally rest. Better yet, he was returning to Tracine and Meara as he’d promised. He’d been confined to a small cabin on the colony ship, and they’d taken his crutches like on his return from Barumi, and for the same reason. He rested on what seemed like an incredibly soft mattress compared to the hard cell floor he’d been sleeping on lately, and was drifting into a comfortable sleep when Peter knocked on his door and entered without waiting for a reply.

Right away Arrin sensed something was wrong. He sat on the edge of his bed. “What’s up?”

“I’m afraid I have some bad news,” Peter said.
