i feel old today
with more life behind
than in front
and i realize
all my ties, my relatives
are gone
and i am tetherless
adrift and breathless
in the void of whatever time
i have left
i don't know what to do
with this unreasonable loneliness
tears seem too dramatic
so i am left
with silent sighs
and the bite of whiskey
i drink alone
