As I type this essay I’m sitting on my backyard deck, listening to the rumble of leaves in the wind and feeling the sun on my skin. This is how I think summer days should always feel; light and airy, with more daylight to pursue our own personal adventures. I remember when I was a kid how much I loved summer and the how the days seemed to last forever. I’d go hiking, biking and swimming until I was exhausted and then go to the bed. The next day I would get up and do it all over again. 

 

But ever since I graduated college, my summers have not been this way. In recent years, every summer I have found myself in overly-air-conditioned office, wearing a sweater with my sandals just to stay warm. At noon I would often venture outside to thaw out and then begrudgingly report...
